Wilmington Luncheon - Too Good to Be True: The Rise and Fall of Bernie Madoff

Tuesday, October 20 2009 12:00pm - 1:30pm Presented by:

Speaker

Erin Arvedlund, Author

Please join us as investigative journalist Erin Arvedlund answers the many bewildering questions that still surround Madoff, perhaps the biggest con-artist in history. Back in 2001, Arvedlund was the first reporter from a major publication (Barron’s) to question Madoff’s amazing yet highly suspicious hedge fund returns. Now she tells the dramatic full story of Madoff’s rise and fall. She explores, among other mysteries, how Madoff was able to defraud so many smart and wealthy clients; what role his wife and family played; and why so few people, including the SEC, heeded the warning signs that Arvedlund and others had raised. Erin Arvedlund began her career as a reporter at Dow Jones newswires in 1993. In 1996, she moved to Moscow, Russia, to write about business and emerging markets at the English-language daily newspaper, The Moscow Times. In 1998, Erin joined TheStreet.com, one of the first real-time Internet news and stock market web sites. She then moved to Barron's magazine to cover options, mutual funds and hedge funds from 2000-2003.
